Brian Maxey was promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Compliance in the summer of 2016. He was previously an Assistant AD for Compliance and began as the department's Assistant Director of compliance when he came to the Island in the spring of 2013.
In his role, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the compliance program, which includes monitoring, enforcement and education for Islanders student-athletes, coaches and staff members.
Prior to coming to the Island University, Maxey spent nearly three years working in the Marshall University athletic compliance office, where he worked in step with the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance to maintain the school’s NCAA Compliance program. As part of this, he published the department’s monthly compliance newsletter, worked on initial eligibility and led monthly rules education meetings.
Maxey worked in management for Walmart in Barboursville, W.Va., before returning to school at Marshall. He earned his master’s degree from Marshall in sport administration in 2010 in addition to earning his bachelor’s degree in physical education in 2008.
Maxey has a daughter, Breann. He resides in Corpus Christi.
