Bill McDaniel joined Islanders Athletics in June 2014 as the department's Assistant Athletics Director for External Operations. In his role, McDaniel will oversee the external operations for Islanders Athletics, which includes the marketing and promotions for the university. He will also be in charge of licensing and branding issues for the Islanders’ 15 Division I sports teams.
Prior to joining the Islanders, he spent two years as McNeese State’s Director of Corporate Sponsorships and External Relations. McDaniel oversaw all licensing distribution and managed McNeese Sports Properties, placing him in charge of the broadcasting efforts for the Cowboys. He also helped oversee the promotional efforts for McNeese, and did a tremendous job of overseeing the corporate sponsorship accounts as well.
Prior to joining the staff at McNeese, McDaniel served as the Assistant AD for Marketing and Communications at the University of Charleston. There he oversaw all media and marketing efforts for the Golden Eagles’ 15 intercollegiate athletics teams in addition to having sport oversight at the West Virginia school. He also was in charge of sponsorship, licensing and game production in his two-plus years at the school.
McDaniel got his start in intercollegiate athletics at Frostburg State in Maryland, working in the athletics communications department while pursuing his master’s of business administration, which he received in 2008. There, he created media guides and promotional materials and vastly expanded the media reach for the school, and had direct supervision of gameday employees.
The native of Winfield, W.Va., received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Marshall University in 2007.
