| GRANT TEAFF TO BE FEATURED SPEAKER AT GOLF TOURNAMENT BANQUET | ||||

Former Baylor University football head coach and current American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) executive director Grant Teaff will be the featured speaker at the Islander Athletics Golf Tournament Banquet to be held at the Omni Bayfront on Thursday, April 8.
Teaff is in his 17th year with AFCA as the executive director and in his 12th as the executive director of the American Football Coaches Foundation. He has become known as one of the most effective administrators at the intercollegiate level. In 2002, Sporting News ranked Teaff as one of the most powerful administrators in college football and in December 2004, Teaff was named one of the most influential people in college sports by Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal. In 2001, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

"In my career in college athletics, I can honestly say that no person in our industry is more universally respected and well regarded than Grant Teaff. He is a sincere and powerful speaker that our supporters and golf tournament participants will truly enjoy. We are truly fortunate that he has chosen to support our event with his presence, and it promises to be a special evening."
Prior to joining the AFCA, Teaff spent 21 years as head football coach at Baylor where has more wins than any other coach. He ended his head-coaching career following the 1992 season. At the time of his retirement, his tenure at one school ranked No. 2 among active FBS coaches. He assumed the duty of athletics director at Baylor during his last season of coaching and would have remained in that position had he not accepted the AFCA post.
At Baylor, Teaff resurrected a down-trodden program. In 1974, he led Baylor to eight wins and the Southwest Conference Championship. It was the Bears first title since 1924 and was highlighted by a 34-24 win over Texas. It was the first win by Baylor over Texas in 17 years. In his tenure, he would win another SWC title in 1980 and won four bowl games. He amassed a record of 128-105-6 with the Bears and was 10-11 against the Longhorns.
Prior to his arrival at Baylor in 1972, Teaff served as head coach at McMurry College (1960-65) and Angelo State University (1969-71). He was assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas Tech for three years between his first two head coaching positions.
Teaff's overall 30-year record as a college head coach is 170-151-8 (Angelo State: 19-11 and McMurry: 23-35-2).
The evening's events will begin with a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:45 p.m. The main program will begin at 7:15 p.m. Tables of 10 for the event will be $750. A VIP reception with Teaff will be held prior to the banquet and is available for $1,000 for a table of 10 people.
