ISLANDERS LOSE SOUTHLAND ROAD MATCH AT UTSA

San Antonio - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-10) on Tuesday night against the UTSA Roadrunners at the UTSA Convocation Center.

The loss sends the Islanders to a 7-20 record on the year and remains winless at 0-12 in Southland Conference matches.  UTSA improves to 10-16 overall and 5-7 in Southland action.

In the first set, the Islanders battled the Roadrunners as the two teams combined for nine ties and four lead changes.  Trailing 18-16 in the opening set, TAMUCC scored four-straight points behind two Jessica Korda kills and two Roadrunner attack errors to take a 20-18 lead.  UTSA answered with seven consecutive points to close out a back-and-forth first set and take a 1-0 lead.

The second set saw the Roadrunners take control early and hold the lead throughout.  UTSA led by as many as 10 at 22-12 and finished the Islanders off with a 25-15 final.  The third set was all Roadrunners as they dominated to a 23-8 lead and a 25-10 final to take the match by a 3-0 final.

Emma Ridley led the Islanders once again, notching 10 kills and eight digs to bring her season total to 397 and move closer to being the first ever Islander with more than 400 kills in a season.  Courtney Wypiszynski tied Ridley with eight digs and also led the team with 17 assists on the night.  Korda also was in double digits with 10 kills on the nights.

The Islanders finish their road trip this weekend as they play in Hammond, La. at Southeastern La. on Friday night and in Thibodaux, La. at Nicholls on Saturday afternoon.  Following the final two road matches of the year, TAMUCC returns home on Nov. 13-14 to close out the year with matches against UT Arlington and Texas State.
